Year in Review | Favourites of 2014

Can you believe the year is almost over? I have had some highs (having my layout published on the cover of Scrapbooking Memories) and some lows (my Dad passing away in August). So for me in 2014 there have been happy and sad times and I suppose that is what life is all about...triumphs and tragedies and everything in between. For me a new year is a time to reflect on the past, set some goals and be open to new experiences in the future! As I have been having a little break from creating I decided I would like to share a selection of my favourite pages and cards from 2014.

I will start with the one I am most proud of...

This page was a labour of love, stamping and/or fussy cutting most of the elements. I then added chipboard embellishments and touches of gold for a little bit of bling. I am blessed to have this page chosen for the cover of Scrapbooking Memories! A dream come true!

I just loved working on this page! I used a die cut paper sheet as a template for water colouring the triangles and stamped and water coloured the words too. My husband commented that 'it looks like kindergarten work' hehe, but luckily I love this fun look and the page was published in Scrapbooking Memories.

This page was created for a challenge while I was on the Scrap the Girls Creative team. I loved playing with mist, texture paste and a monochromatic colour scheme. The feathers have been stamped with acrylic paints and a foam stamp. I love the ombre look!

Next up is a page completed while on the Feeling Sketchy Design Team. I wanted to use up some older products here so used an older Kaisercraft template with Heidi Swapp navy mist, then layered some Prima papers with printable labels and finished with a few Prima roses. RIP Dad xo

I loved this photo so much and wanted it to take centre stage on this layout I designed for a recent Guest Stylist spot at ScrapBoutique. I started by layering strips of Maggie Holmes Open Book papers and vellum which I then stitched in place. I then added vellum pieces from the ephemera pack, stickers and a few enamel dots to finish.

Now for some favourite cards that I created this year...

I started here by misting card stock with gold mist. I then matted this piece onto this gorgeous pattern paper by Ashley Goldberg and used the chipboard diamond as a template to cut extra pieces for embellishing. Some gold thread, buttons, sequins, gold stars and a simple stamped sentiment completed my card.

This fun set published in Stamping, Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine uses vibrant pattern papers from Pebbles Inc. I had a great time layering the papers with stickers and embellishments including sequins, flair and veneer shapes.

This set was also published in Stamping, Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine and was so economical to  make...just a few sheets of Kaisercraft paper and a few embellishments from my stash.

This card was made using a Studio Calico card kit! That cake stamp is to die for and I had fun stamping and embossing the layers of cake to resemble icing. Flowers from the set were stamped and fussy cut to decorate. The sequins and gold embossed ring set add that little bit of bling!

This card was made for a challenge at Studio Calico. I layered vellum printable labels over the newsprint paper, stamped the sentiment and layered with ribbon, thread, a circle printable and a few enamel dots for a pop of colour.

So I hope you have enjoyed taking a peek at my favourite projects of twenty fourteen. I am currently enjoying my break from creating but am hoping that my mojo is re-ignited and better than ever in twenty fifteen.

Thanks for stopping by today! I wish you and your loved ones a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!

Best wishes,

Leanne xo

ScrapBoutique Retreat | Layouts to share

While at retreat recently I stocked up on lots of new collections but kept finding myself drawn to Websters Pages Nest! I just love the colours, patterns and fun images in this collection...and feathers get me every time! After learning all about grids in the Art + Design class I decided to try this out with the pretty 2x2 squares from the Special Places paper. I also once again had fun fussy cutting the feather paper to use as embellishments.

I  so loved the variety of patterns in this collection...it's not often that I love both sides of pattern papers. I also went a little crazy with the machine stitching as it just adds that little extra something to the page!

I also completed quite a few 8.5x11 pages...this one uses layers of the 3x4 cut-aparts with some vellum labels and stickers from the range.

Here I used a recent add on kit from Studio Calico with some Maggie Holmes and Shimelle stickers added. The papers are from Crate Paper Notes and Things and Shimelle. And those gorgeous frames are Crate Paper!

For this page I started out by scribbling gelatos onto watercolour paper and mixing with water to create a bright background for my photo. I then layered Heidi Swapp September Skies ephemera and a few Studio Calico gems around. This was then backed onto that fabulous black polka dot paper from September Skies.

And lastly a layout using the Bluegrass Farms kit from Studio Calico. I added some machine stitching and a few printables with this photo of one of our horses.

Studio Calico Sunday Sketch | Card to share

I love the sketch challenges over at Studio Calico so decided to play along with the card sketch this week. This is the sketch:

And my card photographed with my funny little vintage Santa creamer! I wanted to keep the card very simple (and quick to make) so chose some papers from the Cuppa card kit...a soft blue (where I added the stamped sentiment) and a pretty star pattern that I think is beautiful for a holiday card. I have added a red printable label to give a pop of colour, gold stars and some chipboard trees that have been embossed with gold glitter zing.

How are your preparations for Christmas coming along? I haven't started as yet! Hopefully I will get the tree decorated tomorrow and start on the dreaded Christmas gift shopping. I find it more difficult each year to select thoughtful gifts, especially now my children are older.

Thanks for stopping by, I'm off to sew some Santa pants for a Christmas dress up party :)

Feeling Sketchy | Card sketch #111

Feeling Sketchy's last challenge for 2014 is now posted and it's another unique design from our fabulous sketch designer Debi Clark! I love the design of the die cut shape with the layered banners.

I started out by misting my background paper with Heidi Swap gold Colorshine using a favourite Heidi stencil. The papers are from an older Cosmo Cricket collection called Evangeline (I'm sad that Cosmo Cricket no longer seem to produce paper ranges as they were one of my favourite manufacturers). I then layered the paper banners and a die cut from the same collection. I embellished with a chipboard butterfly and a few Studio Calico enamel dots. An easy card to make but I do like the romantic feel of it.

Sadly this is my last post as a design team member for Feeling Sketchy as I have decided to step down from the team. 2014 has been a tough year for me personally and I need to take a little break from creating at this time. I'm hoping my mojo and joy for paper crafting will return soon and I can join in the challenges as they really are fun and the design team so inspiring.

ScrapBoutique | Guest Stylist

I was so excited to be a Guest Stylist for ScrapBoutique this month. The lovely Chelsea sent me some Maggie Holmes Open Book and Heidi Swapp September Skies to play with!

And this is what I created with Open Book...I added a large photo and strips of pattern paper and velum to the beautiful pink wood grain background. The vellum title and embellishments come from the shape pack that you can find with the collection here

And a card made from the same collection...layers of papers and items from the ephemera pack.

Heidi Swapp's September Skies is another collection that I loved both sides of the papers. These papers are just so bright and happy! Here I layered pattern paper strips on cardstock before stitching and embellishing with items from the ephemera pack.

And again, I used strips of paper to layer under the gorgeous banners. I then layered ephemera and word stickers to embellish! The ephemera is such great value...with card stock and acetate images and words. You can find this pretty collection here, so be sure to pop over and check it out.

Websters Pages Nest | Cards to share

At my recent retreat I spent some time making cards using the Websters Pages Nest collection. I loved the cut-apart papers so used a few of my favourites for these cards. I started with Kraft card stock and wanted to keep them very simple by just adding a stamped image and small embellishments. The sentiments are Studio Calico stamps with black embossing.

The wood veneer heart here in the card below has been coloured with a gold Posca paint pen! Oh how I love these and can't wait to collect more colours.

These cards use some of my favourite papers from the range. This one has a simple wood veneer heart and stamp and embossed sentiment. I just love this pretty yellow paper!

Now for some feathers...I do love anything with feathers!

And a close up showing the fussy cut feathers, along with word and alpha stickers from the range. The little wood birdies have been painted with the Posca pen - you really need to try these!

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my cards and if you love this range as much as I do you can find it here.

Art + Design | Layouts to share

While I was on retreat recently I worked on some of the lessons from my Art + Design class at Big Picture Classes. I had been practicing using presets in Lightroom so worked with photos from the same photo shoot.

This first one uses a printable of one the lesson designs. I do plan on trying out the real thing later where the paint is added to the page and Silhouette cut light bulbs are layered onto the painted areas. But for a retreat using the printable was a fast and easy way to achieve the same look! I painted a couple of chipboard light bulbs to layer on the images and add some dimension to the page, added photos to the page using photo corners (loving these at the moment), and a Heidi Swapp word from September Skies.

This page was created using a grid design and watercolouring a printable from the lesson. I printed the design onto watercolour paper using a laser printer so that the ink would not smudge when adding the colour, a mix of gelatos and water. I just had fun painting with different colours, arranging the squares in a grid and backing the card stock with pattern paper! So quick, and super easy pages to put together.

You may have noticed that I have a pretty new blog design? I'm so glad I stumbled across Envye on the web! Pink, sunrays and watercolours are a few of my favourite things so I thought this template was perfect for me! I'm excited to start the new year with a fresh new look on my blog :)
